The Corrections Division is comprised of twelve full-time correctional deputies. The Corrections Division staff consists of one Lieutenant, two Sergeants, and ten Correctional Deputies.

All of their corrections deputies are certified on the NCIC/FCIC computer system, freeing up the communication division to handle their responsibilities without interruption from the corrections division. They are also trained in the use of fire extinguishers, CPR, and other life saving maneuvers, conduct periodic fire drills, and are continually trained in life saving and accident prevention programs.

911 Dispatch

Under the supervision of Robin Celeste the Communications Division is staffed 24 hours a day. We answer all administrative calls coming into the Sheriff’s Office as well as 911 calls for Gilchrist County. We are equipped to provide radio dispatch to the Sheriff’s Office, six volunteer fire departments, emergency medical services and emergency management, as well as all other state and local agencies.

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is responsible for patrolling and answering calls for service within all of Gilchrist County’s 344 square miles including the rivers and lakes. The primary function of patrol is to protect and serve the citizens. Eleven full-time deputies and three sergeants have accomplished this 24 hours a day. In addition, the deputies must assist in serving civil process, execution warrants, follow-up their own minor investigations, participate in training exercises, perform surveillance work, attend court and assist other sections during emergency or high load periods.

The Patrol Division consists of: 18 Patrol Vehicles, 1 Marine Unit for patrolling the surrounding rivers, and 5 marked Volunteer Patrol Vehicles.

They are also assisted by the GCSO Volunteers. These are citizens that give many hours a month to the community through various activities and projects. These events include: Directing traffic, installing Crime Watch signs, assisting the Patrol Division with eyes and ears while patroling areas of the county and administering first aid. They also take part in and sponsor many special events such as the Gold Hook Kid’s Day, the Educational Foundation’s “Beast Feast”, Buckle UP” Campaign, and Gilchrist County’s “Down Home Days”.

Investigations

The Investigations Section is comprised of five sworn law enforcement officers and a division commander. The Investigation Division’s investigators are well-trained and most of them are specialized in different fields from child abuse, sexual abuse, burglary, fraud, and terrorism. All major crimes committed in Gilchrist County that are reported are reviewed and assigned to a designated investigator. The investigator will then follow up on each individual case and will conduct their investigation until that case is completed.

Investigators rotate shifts in order to provide adequate resources available to assist patrol deputies canvas areas that have been target areas. During this current fiscal year, we have not only been successful in making numerous arrests and seizing several items, but we are also working on improved ways to assist in solving more crimes than previous years.

Explorers

The Law Enforcement Explorer program is open to young women and men aged 14 (and have completed the 8th grade) and not yet 21 who have an interest in the profession of law enforcement and want to learn about it.

This program provides classroom and practical, hands-on training for young adults in the field of law enforcement. We teach them the philosophies, mission, and the objectives of law enforcement. This program gives the participants a chance to see first hand the responsibilities, leadership opportunities, community service activities, and experiences of active duty law enforcement officers. Our goal is to test their abilities, foster respect in themselves, respect in others, and respect in the community. We challenge them to become more responsible citizens.
