The Jupiter Police Department is an internationally accredited team of well trained, professional police officers who have made it their mission to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens they serve. The department prides itself on remaining innovative, and on the cutting edge of modern policing techniques and technology. The department is made up of several different components, all of which contribute significantly to the outstanding police service provided to the community. As with any successful organization, each employee has a tremendous responsibility and contributes to the outstanding reputation the Jupiter Police Department maintains with its citizens and the law enforcement community.
The Police Department consists of 116 sworn officers and 30 civilian support staff personnel. With innovation comes the diversification of specialized units available for assignment to sworn officers. Some of these units and assignments include:
The Beach Patrol is a specialized assignment to patrol the Town of Jupiter beaches. Officers patrol the beaches on four-wheel drive vehicles, ATV’s, on bicycles, and on foot. The Beach Patrol officers are given specialized training to issue citations and handle problems on the beach and enforce all town ordinances and state laws on the beach.
The K-9 Unit is comprised of specially trained police dogs and their police officer handlers. The use of canines is imperative in the fight against crime and provide protection for officers and the community. The K-9’s utilize their indispensable qualities of smell, sight, speed, and agility in tracking and apprehending felony suspects, in locating missing persons and conducting area/building searches.
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is comprised of General Assignment Detectives, Juvenile Detectives, and Special Investigation Detectives.
The primary responsibility of this unit is to investigate all reported criminal activities that occur within the Town. Detectives also investigate and gather intelligence on criminal activity that occurs outside of the Town limits and ultimately affects the quality of life of our community.
The Marine Unit is tasked with the responsibility of patrolling Jupiter’s navigable waterways. This is accomplished with the use of a 32-foot Contender and a 24-foot Ocean Master police boat, as well as a 16-foot rigid hull inflatable vessel. The Unit’s primary focus is boating safety, as well as the protection of waterfront properties and the numerous environmentally sensitive areas located within the town’s boundaries.
The Patrol Bureau Commander is responsible for the most vital unit in the agency. The Patrol Bureau is comprised of Police Officers responsible for responding to and investigating calls for service and patrolling Jupiter’s streets and neighborhoods. The Patrol Bureau also includes the Police Service Aides, Neighborhood Enhancement Team and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This section has the primary responsibility for the department’s effort to preserve peace, protect life and property, and the prevention and suppression of crime.
The Special Weapons and Tactics Team is a specialized unit within the Jupiter Police Department comprised of 20 continually trained members. Since its implementation, the S.W.A.T. Team’s goal is to provide for the safe execution of search warrants, dignitary protection and hostage negotiation situations. The S.W.A.T. Team provides a tactical response to barricaded subjects, active shooter incidents, terrorism and the handling of any critical incident which would require extensive tactical skills. S.W.A.T. provides the Town of Jupiter with a self-sufficient tactical team, utilizing special skills and tools.
Traffic Unit Officers
The Traffic Unit Officers are responsible for enforcing Florida’s Uniform Traffic Laws, investigation of vehicle crashes, and providing traffic control and escorts for VIP motorcades, as well as community activities such as the annual Holiday and Homecoming parades.
Officers assigned to traffic enforcement receive specialized training in the areas of Accident Investigation and Reconstruction. Traffic Unit Officers also participate in various local, state and national campaigns geared toward educating the public in various safe driving skills.

The Communications Division consists of over 180 employees, four independent dispatch/call centers, handling well over one million phone calls annually. Our Communications centers are Headquarters in West Palm Beach, the Courthouse Command Center, Belle Glade – District 5, and the Palm Beach International Airport. Communications support functions include Teletype, Validations, and CAD/GIS. We provide comprehensive law enforcement support services including 9-1-1 and dispatch services to unincorporated Palm Beach County and several contracted municipalities.Court Services Division Captain Edward Jablonski is the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Commanding Officer of the Court Services Division which consists of the Courthouse Security Unit, Courtroom Security Unit, and Court Liaison Unit. We also serve as the Contract Administrator of Security Services (CAOSS), managing all private security screening. Court Services is one of the largest law enforcement divisions at PBSO with 133 personnel. Our mission is to provide a safe environment for everyone who visits or does business on our (5) campuses throughout the county.
The Training Division has a multitude of responsibilities and is committed to providing the best training possible to the 4,000+ employees of the Sheriff’s Office. Classroom and practical training is administered through In-Service classes, along with additional internal and external specialty classes offered to all Sworn Law Enforcement, Corrections personnel and civilian employees as well. Our employees are committed to protecting and serving the community and upholding our guiding principles of Professionalism, Respect, Integrity and Fairness.
PBSO has training facilities located throughout Palm Beach County; our main office is on Cherry Road in West Palm Beach. In addition, the Training Division maintains a Driving Facility, Firearms Range, 2 Armories and 11 Fitness Centers. The division is comprised of 49 personnel that utilize and oversee these facilities. A breakdown of our personnel is as follows: 1 Captain, 3 Lieutenants, 7 Sergeants, 1 Office Support Supervisor, 21 Sworn Trainers, 3 Civilian Trainers, 3 Fitness Trainers, and 10 Support Staff. The division also oversees the Field Training Office (FTO), which provides training for new recruits. In addition, the division also supports the Bicycle Unit which is run by a civilian manager who coordinates over 350 bicycle deputies, making it the second largest bicycle unit in the nation.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division is responsible for processing, storing and executing all arrest warrants issued in Palm Beach County by the courts. Our staff of 14 warrant specialists and 2 warrant supervisors process and enter all arrest warrant information into our local database and assure that all information is entered into the proper state and national databases so they are accessible to all law enforcement agencies throughout the country. At any given time the Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining approximately 45,000 arrest warrants.
The Narcotics Division primarily focuses on enforcing state and federal controlled substance laws and regulations. We are dedicated to aggressively investigating and holding those individuals/organizations accountable that grow, manufacture, and/or distribute controlled substances. We are dedicated to working together with federal, state, and other local law enforcement agencies to effectively accomplish our mission.
The Narcotics Division is also home to the Public Assistance Fraud Task Force. This Task Force investigates the multiple types of fraud involving public assistance. The Task Force is made up of local, state, and federal agencies that diligently enforce laws aimed at stopping those who choose to intentionally abuse our public assistance programs through fraudulent means.
