The town of Micanopy contracts the the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office for police services. The Sheriff’s Office is located on SE Hawthorne Road in Gainesville. The ACSO is headed by Sheriff Sadie Darnell. There are several departments within th ACSO – the Department of Operations, the Department of Support Services, and the Department of the Jail.

The Department of the Jail is responsible for the operations of the Alachua County Jail. The facility has 1,148 beds and measures 314,000 square feet. The entire jail is headed by Major J. Cloutier.
