Livingston is the site of one of two LIGO gravitational wave detector sites. In September 2015, Advanced LIGO detected the first direct Gravitation wave observation. This observation was reported in February 2016 and put Livingston, LA on the map.
Livingston was built by the Lyons Lumber Company in 1916 as a logging community. When Livingston was first established, there was a house on every lot, every house had a board walk, and water wells were drilled on each corner, so every home could have access to running water.
