The Sabine River, the boundary between Louisiana and Texas received its name from the Roman story “Rape of the Sabines.” Similar to the Roman story, French explorers sailed up the Sabine River (not named at that time) to an Indian Village. They invited the Indian braves and their Indian maidens aboard to feast. They served the braves wine, and after the braves were drunk, throw them over the side and took off with their Indian maidens. So goes the story.
