Minden is a small city and the parish seat of Webster parish in northwestern Louisiana. At the 2016 estimated census the population was 12,577. Minden is located 28 miles east of Shreveport and is part of the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area.
Minden has had its own Post Office since 1839. The community also has a newspaper that has been in operation since the 1850s. Camp Minden is the site of the former Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant. In 2012, the removal of 2,700 tons of explosives from Camp Minden which lead to the evacuation of the nearby town of Doyline.
Minden was the encampment of 15,000 Confederate soldiers. At the time, Minden was a supply deport of the troops. Thirty Confederate soldiers who died in the Battle of Mansfield and another battle at Pleasant Hill – are buried in historic Minden Cemetery.
