The Pointe Coupee Detention Center (PCDC) houses approximately 150 offenders for a wide range of crimes, both misdemeanors and felonies. At any given time, PCDC may also house up to 10 female offenders. PCDC offers a number of education classes, which is designed to better the offender. Statistics show offenders that complete these courses are less likely to commit other crimes. Our trustee program has saved Pointe Coupee Parish residents thousands in dollars of tax money by providing free labor at local schools, local municipality and non-profit organizations. Administration Division

The Administration Division is responsible for policy development, as well as maintenance and accuracy of the Sheriff’s Office Policy and Procedures Manual. The division ensures policy revision and updating for consistency and accuracy of the agency. The support staff is responsible for answering all of the incoming phone calls, issuing out reports completed by the patrol deputies, and processing bail documents. Other functions include processing and tracking of approximately 6-10 grants for the Sheriff’s Office. The Administration Division is the point of contact to the public. It is also responsible for collecting complaints made by the public.

Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is responsible for conducting complex and major criminal investigations. CID communicates and cooperates with prosecutors to provide evidence for criminal prosecution. They establish open, honest and informative dialogue with victims and survivors of crime. While they may not be as visible as uniform patrol officers, they are essential in the success of the Sheriff’s Office.

Communications

Dispatchers perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in our 24-hour facility. Using a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, emergency calls are received from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Our highly trained dispatchers must determine the nature and location of the emergency in accordance with established protocols and procedures. Other responsibilities include maintaining contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of police and fire unis, monitor direct emergency alarms, answer non-emergency calls for assistance, and monitor several complex public safety radio frequencies. The Dispatcher is often the first contact with the public when an emergency occurs. All Dispatchers receive both textbook as well as hands on training and must be certified in CJIS, NEMS, SAFE and complete The Board of Ethics training before they are allowed to work on their own. Civil and Tax Division

The Civil and Tax division is responsible for the preparation and management of the General Fund Budget and the Special Revenue Fund Budgets for the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff. This division also coordinates all legal and insurance claims and manages the inventory for the department. Other responsibilities of the Civil and Tax Division include collecting and distributing property taxes, fines, garnishments and the proceeds of the sale of hunting/fishing licenses to the Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries. In addition, this division coordinates insurance, pension, and supplemental pay benefits for PCSO employees. Other functions of the Civil and Tax Division include payroll, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, and seizures/foreclosures – sheriff’s sales.

Uniform Patrol

Uniform Patrol Deputies are on patrol 24 hours, 7 days a week throughout the parish. PCPSO Deputies are the first responders to all criminal calls. In addition, they respond to a myriad of calls that include complaints, enforcement of traffic ordinances and crime prevention. Included in the Uniform Patrol Division is a specialized K-9 unit. Several Patrol Deputies are a part of specially trained teams including the SRT and SWAT. All Patrol Deputies have completed the POST Academy and are POST Certified.

SWAT

Special Response Teams SRT/SWAT are highly trained to execute high risk felony warrants. They are the coordinating team for search and rescue both on land and on water. They have received specialized training in use of special weapons, tactics, responding to active shooters, and structure clearing. The SRT/SWAT teams also respond to barricaded subjects and situations that may involve negotiations.

Sheriff’s Posse

The Sheriff’s Posse provides support to the Sheriff’s Office during emergency situations and performs other duties deemed appropriate by the Sheriff. Members must be a resident of Pointe Coupee Parish and join on a volunteer status. The Posse is comprised of approximately 20 members. They are utilized for non-enforcement duties such as search and rescue, responding to man-made and natural disasters and crowd/traffic control at large community gatherings. ​

Office of Emergency Preparedness

The Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) is responsible for developing , coordinating, and directing all emergency management activities for the parish. This is accomplished by communicating natural or man-made disasters, dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls, and developing emergency and disaster plans. Other duties include preparing warning systems, developing public information programs, and performing evaluations. ​

Search and Rescue

The Search and Rescue Team was started in 2011 in preparation for the potential flooding of the Mississippi River. It is comprised of all volunteers and is divided into North, South, and Central regions for the parish. Being the second phase of the alert system, their responsibility is to start the process on all missing persons reported. The Search and Rescue Team volunteers are prepared and trained to complete duties on land and in water.
