Patrol Division

The Patrol Department of the Office of Operational Services is led by Deputy Chief Paul J. DiCapo. The Patrol Department is responsible for responding to all complaints that come into the St Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department, patrolling parish roads, and conducting security checks on businesses both during operation and after hours, as well as security checks at residents. The main office as well as the parish’s four substations have patrolmen assigned 24/7.

The Sheriff’s Department has 40 patrol deputies and 5 resource officers. The Sheriff’s Department has 4 Levee Patrol Deputies. These deputies are equipped with 4-wheel drive trucks and ATV vehicles. Their main duties are to patrol the most rural parts of the parish where patrol cars may have trouble getting to, such as levees, hunting clubs, recreation areas and camps. They also handle complaints as needed.

Criminal Investigations Unit

The Criminal Investigations Unit serves the citizens of St. Landry Parish by providing initial and follow up in-depth investigation of felony and misdemeanor crimes.
Personnel assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit are tasked and trained to perform investigative functions related to a full spectrum of assigned cases. Cases range from simple crimes against property to complex crimes against persons.

Evidence and Records

The Evidence Custodian is responsible for logging in and maintaining evidence as it pertains to the prosecution of crimes. The responsibilities of the custodian include ensuring that evidence is delivered to the appropriate testing facility and placed back into evidence to be presented to the courts. Additionally, they compose motions and orders presented to the district attorney’s office and the court for the disposal or release of evidence once it is no longer needed in any legal proceeding.

The Records Custodian is responsible for the safekeeping of all records to include but not limited to case reports, accident reports, and offense reports. The custodian also coordinates with the Secretary of State’s Office for the destruction or archiving of outdated files.

Narcotics

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office takes an aggressive stance on combating the drug problems within our parish.

The new 24-hour drug hotline will record drug tips, however all callers will remain absolutely anonymous and confidential. Residents are urged to take advantage of this new tool in the war against drugs.
