ZPD Uniform Patrol
The Zachary Police Department maintains and provides coverage for all of the City Of Zachary. Four shifts consisting of five officers each maintain 24 hour a day service and patrol protection.
The Officers of Uniform Patrol respond to all criminal and traffic complaints which are called in through our Communications Division. When not answering these calls, they conduct traffic enforcement and patrol the business and residential areas of the community to deter and detect any criminal activities.
K-9 Division
The Zachary Police Department (ZPD) K-9 Unit was established in order to provide the department with an additional tool to detect and locate narcotics, assist in suspect apprehension, track individuals, perform building and area searches, locate evidence and provide officer safety. Utilization of Canines requires adherence to procedures that properly control their use of force potential and channels their specialized capabilities into legally acceptable crime prevention and control activities. Canine Teams must demonstrate compliance with recognized standards in training and certification to minimize or eliminate the civil liabilities inherent with the deployment and utilization of police canines.
Communications
The Zachary Police Department Communications Division is dedicated to providing outstanding service to the citizens of this community. The process of screening and prioritizing calls for assistance and accurately dispatching to suit the public’s specific needs is the foundation of our daily duties. Our communications center is linked via computer network to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff Office, Baton Rouge City Police, Baker Police, EMS and Baton Rouge Fire in an effort to promote interoperability between agencies and to maximize our ability to provide prompt and effective service. Furthermore we have implemented the latest radio technology to better serve the community. The communications division is currently staffed with eight full time Post Certified communications officers.
School Resource Officers
SRO’s have a diverse role in the school community and have many duties and responsibilities.
A School Resource Officer is defined as a sworn officer assigned to a school on a long-term basis trained to perform three major roles: law enforcement officer, law-related counselor and law-related educator. In addition, the officer works in collaboration with the school and the community as a resource for safety and security issues.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Prison is run and staffed by the Sheriff’s Office. Over 1500 inmates are housed at this facility; 1410 males and 184 females. Over 350 Deputies are employed at the Prison, including secretarial workers, guards, and administrative staff.
Of course, the prison serves a very important function in East Baton Rouge Parish, keeping those people off of the streets who are a danger to the law-abiding citizens. The prison does have several programs in place which strive to help these inmates to learn the error of their ways and to become viable parts of the community upon their release. These programs include a GED program which enables the inmates to earn a high school equivalency diploma, physical fitness programs and an extensive library. The prison also features its own chapel to stress to the inmates the value of virtue, and to provide them with a place to reflect upon their wrongdoings.

Civil Office
Finance and Budget
As the name implies, the Finance and Budget Office is responsible for the finance and budget functions of the Sheriff’s office. The office prepares annual budgets in accordance with state law, and monitors compliance with budget appropriations. All financial accounting and reporting for the Sheriff’s office is performed through the Finance and Budget Office. Accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant reporting, and fixed asset accounting are also handled through this office.
Purchasing
The Purchasing Department is responsible for the purchase of equipment, materials and supplies for the operations of the Sheriff’s office. Examples include patrol vehicles, computer equipment, weapons, other law enforcement equipment, and food and clothing for inmates housed in the parish prison. These purchases are made in accordance with state procurement laws, and frequently involve the use of a competitive bid process. Vendors are encouraged to participate in the bid process and may obtain further information by contacting the Purchasing Department at 225-389-4833. The Purchasing Department is also responsible for contracting for property and casualty, liability, and automobile insurance. Foreclosure Department
The Foreclosure Department is responsible for the seizure and sale of real and moveable properties in accordance with writs of seizure directed to the Sheriff’s office. Such writs may result from foreclosure proceedings, monetary judgments, and other actions of the courts. Sheriff’s sales are conducted by this department each Wednesday at 10:00AM in the lobby of the Governmental Building at 222 St. Louis Street, Baton Rouge, LA. The sales alternate weekly between those for real and moveable properties. The activities of the Foreclosure Department may also be viewed online with the Online Civil Process and Foreclosure System. The site contains listings of properties to be offered at Sheriff’s sale.
Tax Office
The tax office collects and disburse more than $450 million annually in property taxes for East Baton Rouge Parish. The taxes are disbursed each month to the various taxing entities such as the School Board, Assessor, BREC, City/Parish and Fire Districts.
Fines Department
The fines department collects all criminal and traffic fines for the 19th Judicial District Court and remits these amounts to the courts and appropriate agencies on a monthly basis.

We are currently located at the Advanced Traffic Management, which houses City Police, Fire and EMS.
Detectives Bureau
General Investigations
The General Investigations Division currently has 28 positions within the division structure. The division is divided into four shifts, sex offender registration unit, one investigator assigned to the Repeat Offender Prosecution Enhancement program, and includes command and support staff. Detectives from this division are responsible for investigating a wide array of violent crimes. These include but are not limited to rapes, sexual assaults against minor children, juvenile crimes, kidnapping, large internal thefts, attempted homicides, and other violent felonies. The division is also responsible for the registration and monitoring of all registered sex offenders in East Baton Rouge Parish, to ensure that they are in compliance with all registration requirements. General Investigations also works closely with other divisions throughout the office for investigation enhancement. As a result of these investigations, detectives in the General Investigations Unit work closely with other agencies both local and federal. Some of these agencies include the La. Attorney General’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, the Stop Rape Crisis Center, and the Children’s Advocacy Center.
Homicide
The unit has three primary goals: bring perpetrators to justice, give closure to victims’ families and the community and reduce the number of homicides committed. Having this specialized division committed solely to homicide cases increases the likelihood of solving a case. In doing so, EBRSO can bring the perpetrator to justice and prevent them from committing other acts of violence.
Armed Robbery and Burglary
To combat the problems of burglary and armed robbery, it is the policy of the Armed Robbery and Burglary Division to go “proactive” in areas of increased burglary/armed robbery activity. This often includes long hours of daytime or nighttime surveillance by highly trained detectives who meld into their surroundings.
Auto Theft
The primary goal of the Auto Theft Division is to recover stolen vehicles and arrest auto theft suspects. We also strive to investigate cases in a timely manner, obtain successful prosecution, and educate the public in reference to auto theft prevention. Auto Theft detectives examine and assess each reported theft of motor vehicles, marine type vehicles, recreational vehicles, and motorized construction equipment. Reported thefts with follow-up potential are immediately acted upon and information developed pertaining to other crimes is forwarded to the appropriate detective division. The Auto Theft Division also conducts operations to disrupt and dismantle Auto Theft rings, by performing periodic inspections of Salvage Yards, Body Shops and Independent Auto Dealers.
Financial Crimes
The primary responsibility of the Financial Crimes Division is to investigate identity thefts, counterfeiting, forgeries, bank frauds, felony thefts, and computer related crimes. In 2007, the Financial Crimes Division investigated thefts and frauds totaling nearly $3,000,000.00. These types of crimes affect individuals, banks, and businesses equally.
Narcotics
The mission of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Division is to identify significant sources of illegal drugs in and to East Baton Rouge Parish, then develop prosecutable criminal cases against those sources.
Crime Scene
The Crime Scene Division is a well-equipped, highly trained group of professionals responsible for processing all major scenes such as Homicides, Robberies, Sex Crimes, Questionable Deaths and any crime or incident resulting in serious bodily injuries. On-scene investigation includes photography, videotaping, scene sketches, evidence processing and evidence collection.
