Established in 1955, the Walled Lake Police Department has grown from a single police officer to a staff of 19 sworn Police Officers, 12 Auxiliary Officers as well as 2 dedicated civilian employees. Detective Unit
The Walled Lake Police Department currently has two Detectives assigned to the Detective Unit. The Detectives are assigned to investigate all major crimes, unattended deaths, request of warrants, court preparation and crimes that require more time than patrol can reasonably provide. Detectives may also be assigned to investigate non-criminal cases of a complex or time consuming nature.
Patrol Bureau
The Patrol Bureau is comprised of Police Officers responsible for responding to and investigating calls for service, along with patrolling Walled Lake’s streets and neighborhoods. This section has the primary responsibility for the department’s effort to preserve peace, protect life and property, and the prevention and suppression of crime.The Patrol Bureau is responsible for providing immediate response and preventive patrol for 3 square miles and 7,000 residents. Marine Division
The Walled Lake Police Marine Division patrols Walled Lake on weekends and holidays, from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
The Marine Patrol and Water Rescue Unit is charged with the responsibility of patrolling all of Walled Lake in the communities of Walled Lake and Novi. When not staffed with a Marine Patrol Officer, Officers from Road Patrol will respond to calls for assistance and criminal complaints as needed.

The Corrective Services Division of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the supervision and oversight of approximately 1,300 of the 1,700 inmates in the corrections system. Security ranges from maximum security to low-level offenders. This Division is responsible for all Main Jail operations as well as booking, visitation of inmates, and food services.The goal of the Division is to maintain order and discipline, promoting safety and security within the facility, thus providing for the security and safety for the citizens of Oakland County.
In 2013, the Corrective Services Division admitted close to 20,000 prisoners. This is a challenge for the personnel of the Division considering there is a consistent jail overcrowding issue. The deputies and command do a phenomenal job of adjusting to the inmate overcrowding and creating ways to keep the system moving and secure.The Main Oakland County Jail, located at 1201 North Telegraph, was built in 1973. The jail is a maximum security facility and has general inmate population housing of approximately 440 inmates. The intake area for processing new arrests includes holding tanks and observation cells which accommodate a capacity of 156 inmates.
A 24-hour, seven day per week health clinic is operated at the jail and has seven single cells. In March, 1989, the Annex (a direct supervision facility) was completed, which is attached to the Main Jail and has the capacity to house an additional 487 inmates.
