The Patrol Division consists of several units such as the K-9 Unit, Bicycle Patrol Unit, and the Honor Guard. These officers are responsible for answering all calls for service and conducting preliminary investigation of all crimes. The Investigative Division is comprised of two teams of detectives. One team handles the evidence room and general investigations while the other investigates gangs, juvenile offenses, and narcotics.

The Johnston County Jail is the facility used by the Clayton Police Department. All inmates are allowed visitation. Visits are only on weekends and by appointment. You can schedule an appointment by calling (919) 989-5045 on Tuesday or Wednesday between the hours of 10am – 2pm. Appointments are on a first come, first serve basis. Each inmate is allowed one 15-minute visit each week.
