In order to create a deterrent to those who chose to commit crimes in the City of Aurora, the Police Department has established an asset forfeiture policy. In addition to seizing the stolen items from the criminal, the Detective Bureau strips the criminal of their personal possessions that they use while committing the crimes. This has resulted in the forfeiture of motor vehicles, tools, cash and electronic devices. The forfeited items are either used by the police department for law enforcement purposes, or are donated to charity.
The Aurora Police Communications Center consists of a staff of 6 full-time and 6 part-time dispatchers who are all EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatching) trained.
