Multi Area Narcotics Unit

The Defiance Police Department is a founding member of the Multi Area Narcotics Unit (MAN Unit). The MAN Unit is comprised of officers representing the Defiance Police Department, the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Napoleon Police Department, The Williams County Sheriff’s Office, The Bryan Police Department, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, the Archbold Police Department, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. The MAN Unit takes an active role in combating illegal substances throughout Northwest Ohio.

Defiance Police Department Bike Patrol

The Defiance Police Department Bike Patrol was instituted on May 30th, 2001. The bike patrol is utilized as an alternative means of transportation that officers can use for regular patrol, targeted enforcement, and community events.

The utilization of the police bicycle unit is a cost effective means of transportation creates greater personal interaction between the officer and the community while in the performance of their duties. An officer on a bike is often more approachable than an officer in a patrol car. Bike officers are a great way to build stronger police and community relations.

Defiance Police Department K-9 Program

The current Defiance Police Department K9 program started in 1995. At this time the department incorporated its first full time K9 unit. Currently the Defiance Police K9 unit consists of a full time K9 handler and a department K9. The department uses trained and certified police utility dogs that are trained in; drug interdiction, tracking, building searches, article searches, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.
The Defiance Police K9 Unit has been a great asset to the City of Defiance and has accounted for numerous criminal apprehensions, drug seizures, and mutual aid requests from other jurisdictions.

Defiance Police Department School Resource Officer

The Defiance Police Department takes the safety and welfare of our children and our schools very seriously. Our commitment to ensuring the safety of our students and schools has facilitated the position of a full time School Resource Officer (SRO). Officers that are assigned to the Defiance Police Department SRO program are trained and certified as School Resource Officers. The role of the School Resource Officer is to foster a safe learning environment for students and staff while fostering an environment of trust, respect, understanding, and mutual benefit for all students, staff, and the families of the schools located in the City of Defiance.

Police Auxiliary

The Defiance Police Department has a group of individuals who work toward making Defiance a better community. This group is the reserve officers of the Defiance Police Department. Some but not all have received the required training by the State of Ohio to be sworn police officers having full police powers. We encourage all our reserve officers to receive the training but it is not a requirement to join and belong to our reserve unit.
