Dispatch/911 Center

The Eaton Police Division is staffed by 4 full time and 1 part time dispatchers who are highly trained communication experts. The dispatchers are the heart of the office when it comes to receiving complaints, calls for help, and then taking the necessary steps to ensure that the proper Law Enforcement, Fire Department or Emergency Squad are notified and sent to the location of the emergency. During 2013 Officers and Dispatchers handled 16,630 calls for public safety services. A 3.69% increase over last year’s 16,039 calls. Of these calls 2,631 were for Emergency Medical and/or Fire Services and 13,999 were for Police calls.

The Eaton Police Division operates 911 services for the City of Eaton. This system automatically identifies the caller’s telephone number and address that the call is being made from with the exception of cellular 911 calls. Cell phone calls generate a radius on the 911 mapping system of the general area of the location that is derived from the cell towers.

Every call received through this 911 system is deemed an emergency at the point the telephone rings. All calls are answered, “911 Is this an emergency?” to determine if the call is actually an emergency where a Police, Fire, or Medical response is needed to protect life or property. If the call is deemed to not be an emergency you will be asked to call the police division on a non-emergency line so that the 911 lines are not tied up any longer than necessary.

The information provided to the dispatchers during a 911 call will assist the responding Law Enforcement, Fire or Emergency Squad to determine the best course of action to each individual situation and provide better service to the citizens of Eaton.
