Patrol Division

Patrol Division is the “backbone” of the Streetsboro Police Department and constitutes the largest division of the agency. The duties of our Patrol personnel are wide and varied. Officers perform tasks such as: Routine patrol throughout the community, targeted patrol as assigned, traffic enforcement, responding to calls for service, arresting offenders, completing incident and criminal reports and follow up investigations, completing traffic crash reports and follow up investigations, community policing, community relations, and testifying in court to name some.


The Streetsboro Police Detective Bureau has two investigators that are responsible for all cases that require more time and effort than a patrol officer can commit to a case. Cases investigated by the detective bureau include financial crimes, violent crimes, sexual assaults, suspicious deaths and others. They also assist other agencies such as the Prosecutor’s Office, the Department of Jobs and Family Services and other law enforcement agencies in investigating their cases.


The Streetsboro Police Department’s Communications staff is a critical component of our mission and service to our community. Staffed 24/7, 365 days a year, our highly trained Communications staff handled over 26,000 total calls for service (public as well as officer initiated) in 2011 for the Streetsboro Police Department and Streetsboro Fire Department.


In September 2008, the Streetsboro Police Department added their newest four-legged officer “Bo,” a Belgian Malinois, to the force. Patrolman Aaron Coates, a member of the Streetsboro Police Department since February 2000, was selected as the department’s K-9 Handler.

The Portage County Jail was opened in May of 1995 as a 24 hour full service facility located in the Portage County Justice Center, 8240 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, Ohio. Both male and female adult prisoners are housed in the Portage County Jail, with a maximum capacity of 241 beds. The Jail is supervised by Jail Administrator Captain Ricky Neal, along with a support staff of 6 full-time supervisors, 55 full-time corrections officers, 2 full-time civilians, 6 part-time corrections officers, and 4 part-time civilians.
