The law enforcement agency in the town of Alta is the Alta Marshal’s Office. The officers of this department are responsible for responding to all calls for police service in the community. In addition, the Marshal’s Office works closely with the Unified Police Department Canyon Patrol of Salt Lake County. These two agencies. respond to search and rescue calls, highway avalanche control, and major incidents.

The Alta Marshal’s Office uses two correctional facilities to house its inmates – the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and the Oxbow Jail Facility. Inmates at these facilities are allowed two visits per week, one visit per visiting day. Each visit only lasts 30 minutes. An inmate’s visitation schedule is dependent on his housing unit. All visits must be scheduled up to 6 days in advance by calling 385-468-8400.
