The Provo Police Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the city of Provo by ensuring the safety of life and property within the area. It is comprised of several divisions such as Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Special Operations. The Patrol Division provides several services to the community including the K9 unit for narcotics and bomb detection, animal control, crossing guards, and 24/7 patrols within all areas in its jurisdiction. The Special Operations Division has five proactive specialty teams that focus on drug offenses, school resource and education, street crimes, neighborhood quality of life issues, and fugitive apprehension. The PPD is headed by Chief of Police Rich Ferguson.

The inmates of the Provo Police Department are held in the Utah County Jail which has a maximum capacity of 800 prisoners. Inmates are permitted two free 25-minute visits per week. Free on-site visits are held Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am-11:00 am, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm, except on holidays. All schedules must be scheduled 24 hours in advance of the visit through the Securus website or by using the Securus kiosk located in the visitor waiting room.
