The Smithfield City Police Department works in partnership with the people in the community to enhance the quality of life in the area. The SCPD is comprised of several sections such as Patrol, Animal Control, and Crossing Guards. The patrol officers are responsible for providing 24/7 police coverage to all areas within city limits and answering calls for service. They also enforce traffic laws and investigated reported incidents. The SCPD is headed by Chief of Police Travis Allen.

The Smithfield City Police Department holds its inmates at the Cache County Jail. Inmates at this facility are allowed to participate in its video visitation program. The visiting week is from Sunday through Saturday. All on-site visits are free while remote visits charge a fee. Each inmate is given 2 free 20-minute visits per week. The on-site visitation schedule is from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and again 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday through Friday as well as 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Remote visiting hours are 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, Sunday through Saturday.
