The South Salt Lake Police Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the city by providing quality police services. It is comprised of three divisions – Patrol, Investigations, and Community Resources. The Patrol Division has 6 uniformed squads who conduct routine patrols around the city as well as other units such as Traffic, K9, and Major Accident Investigations. The Investigations Division is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations on major crimes. The division includes several units such as Evidence, Crime Scene Investigations, Street Crimes Unit, and SWAT. The SSLPD is headed by Chief of Police Jack Carruth.

The inmates of the South Salt Lake Police Department are housed in the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and the Oxbow Jail Facility. Inmates at these facilities are permitted two 30-minute visits each week, one visit per visiting day. An inmate’s visitation schedule is dependent on his housing unit. All visits must be scheduled up to 6 days in advance by calling 385-468-8400.
