Haughton is a town in Bossier Parish, Louisiana and the county seat is Benton, LA. At the 2016 estimated census, the population was 3,325. Haughton is part of the Shreveport-Bossier Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a total area of 5.3 square miles.

The town took its name from William and Harriet Hassell Haughton. The Haughton family came from Tennessee to settle in this area. Mr. Haughton was a wealthy man and made his home in the rich bottom lands of Fifi Bayou. He was a farmer and a teacher and the family settle on 2,000 acres of prime land. Mr. Haughton’s friend David Lawrence quickly moved his family to the area, purchased 7,000 acres and developed the land. Haughton grew up around these two families.
