Located in Manatee County, Holmes Beach is the largest of the three cities on Anna Maria Island and is situated on the Gulf of Mexico at the southern tip of the entrance to Tampa Bay. Bordered on the north by the City Anna Maria and the south by the City Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach stretches just over 3 miles. With the beautiful Gulf of Mexico white sandy beaches to the west, and the intercoastal waters of Anna Maria Sound to the east; Holmes Beach has just over 3,800 permanent residents who call paradise their home.

Enforcement Bureau
The Enforcement Bureau is responsible for providing law enforcement services to the residents of the unincorporated area of Manatee County. There are approximately 295 deputies and 92 civilian employees assigned to the Enforcement Bureau, which is divided into three Patrol Divisions. The deputies patrol the larger portion of 741 square miles of land that make up Manatee County and serve a population of approximately 313,000 persons.
Agricultural Crimes Unit
The Agricultural Crimes Unit is responsible for the patrolling and investigation duties in the rural sections of the county. They become acquainted with the property owners, their problems, and work with them to find solutions.
The Agricultural Unit addresses the unique problems associated with ranch-style living, i.e., livestock, citrus, and other aspects associated with the farming industry. Thefts of farm animals, crops, machinery, equipment, trespassing on cultivated lands and animal abuse/neglect are just a few examples of the crimes investigated by the Agricultural Unit. This unit conducts proactive patrols of extremely remote areas for illegal drug activity and trespassing. They also enforce the hunting laws of the state, and patrol the county parks during season.
Aviation Unit
The Aviation Unit maintains fixed and rotary wing aircraft for use in attaining goals and objectives relative to surveillance, controlled substance eradication, crime scene management, patrol, and crime prevention.
The Aviation Unit provides airborne law enforcement support to all units within the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. Support includes search and rescue, surveillance, patrol flights, drug searches, traffic enforcement, aerial photography for investigation and courtroom presentation, searches for missing persons, missing boaters, and stolen vehicles.
Bomb Disposal
Bomb Disposal, an ever-increasingly important part of the agency, is composed of trained deputies normally attached to the Enforcement Bureau that respond to and render explosive devices safe and provide guidelines, training and assistance to department personnel responding to explosive ordinance calls.
Dive Team
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team is made up of full-time deputies that are specially trained for this function. The function of the Manatee County dive team is recovery of evidence, raising sunken vessels and the recovery of victims from any fatal water activity.
K9 Unit
Canines are used for searching wanted or fleeing suspects; apprehending fleeing suspects; crowd control; and public relations demonstrations for local schools and community organizations. The K-9,s and their Handlers receive intensive training to become certified to perform their assigned duties.
Canines are also assigned to narcotics detection. Prior to being put into service, canines used for narcotics detection are trained and certified in locating hidden quantities of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.
Marine Unit
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit was established as a full-time unit in 1987 by then Sheriff Charles B. Wells. The Unit is responsible for approximately 150 miles of coastal shoreline patrol, as well as nearly 9,000 acres of freshwater lakes and ponds. The routine patrol area of the Marine Unit extends to 9 nautical miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. The Marine Unit members are also cross-certified Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers, and are empowered to enforce federal regulations far beyond the limits of State of Florida jurisdiction.
Mounted Patrol
The Mounted Unit provides specialized law enforcement patrol duties when and where needed to fulfill the objectives and goals of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. The Mounted patrol is made up of individual employees who own horses and are willing to ride as agency representatives in various events, functions, and incidents.
SWAT
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is committed to maintaining a cadre of highly trained, disciplined, and motivated deputies, who are specifically equipped and available to respond to critical and/or high-risk incidents, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. Each team member keeps himself/herself available on a twenty‑four hour basis by telephone, radio, or assigned pager
The Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team shall be comprised of at least 18 deputies. Their mission, which is not full‑time assignments, is to provide ready response to situations beyond the capabilities of normally equipped and trained deputies. This includes the protection and coverage of Very Important Persons (VIPs).
Traffic
The Traffic Unit is responsible for Traffic Enforcement and the safety of pedestrian school children, the issuance of parking tickets to those illegally parked in handicapped parking and other locations, and the enforcement of DUI statutes in support of the patrolling function.
