Visitation with inmates incarcerated at the Nassau County Detention Facility is conducted utilizing a video visitation system. The variance from this procedure is an approved exceptional visit as indicated below.
Video Visitation hours are from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm seven days a week. Exceptional visits will be conducted at the discretion of the Facility Director or his designee.
Two thirty (30) minute visits will be allowed per designated day. Children of any age are allowed to participate in video visitation when accompanied by an adult. Children 10 years of age and under can be approved for an exceptional visit when requested by the inmate, approved by the Facility Director or his / her designee, and while accompanied by an adult.
Inmates are allowed to have visitation with friends and family members that have been identified on the inmate’s visitation list. Only visitors listed by the inmate on his or her visitation list will be allowed to visit. Visitation will be denied when there is reason to believe that such visitation would jeopardize the safety and security of the facility. Visitation will also be denied upon identifying that the visitor is a victim of a violent crime involving the inmate, or if there is an injunction, other legal prohibitions, or a judge’s order for no contact between the visitor and the inmate.
The only items visitor(s) may possess are car keys and proper identification (ID). Acceptable forms of proper ID are a valid picture ID issued by a federal, state or local government agency. All visitors are subject to search upon entering or leaving the facility. Visitors under the influence of intoxicants or exhibiting unruly behavior will not be allowed to remain in the facility or permitted to visit and may be prohibited from entering the facility in the future.
All visitors must be appropriately attired. Unacceptable clothing includes, but is not limited to, transparent clothing, tight clothing without proper undergarments, headwear, shorts, skirts, split skirts above mid-thigh, clothing that reveals the buttocks, breasts, back, or stomach. All of the above will be deemed inappropriate at the discretion of the Public Reception Official. Inmates and/or visitors are not allowed to bring food or drink to the visitation.

Law Enforcement
Patrol Division
The Patrol Division provides a full range of emergency and non-emergency services to the entire county. The primary responsibility is to provide 24-hour service and protection to the citizens and visitors of Nassau County.
The Patrol Division is managed by the Patrol Division Commander and is broken down into four separate squads. Each of these squads consist of ten deputies who are assigned to individual zones. The two sergeants are assigned to a sector and the lieutenant is responsible for the entire County. The East sector starts at the most Easterly side of the County and extends West to Griffin Road on S.R. 200. The West sector starts at Griffin Road on S.R. 200 and extends to the farthest Westerly end of Nassau County. Both the East and West sectors coverage extends North to the Florida/Georgia state line and South to the Duval County line. The sectors are overseen by the shift Watch Commander (Lieutenant).
K-9 Unit
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit is staffed by four K-9 / handler teams with single purpose dogs trained to detect narcotics.
The K-9’s superior sense of smell allows them to detect miniscule odors that are most of the time undetectable by the average person. Their keen eyesight supplements this sense of smell to make them unmatched detection tools. These canines are intelligent and well trained. They adapt well to new and changing situations which makes them a valuable asset to any law enforcement agency.
Special Response Team
The Nassau County Special Response Team (SRT) is tasked with responding to incidents involving barricaded subjects and hostage situations. They also serve high risk warrants and conduct dignitary protection details when required. All members of the SRT Team are required to attend a basic SWAT school and have two mandatory training days a month thereafter. Members are also sent to specialty training courses such as less lethal, marksman (sniper), tactical hand gunning and shoot house training, provided by recognized training organizations.
Hostage Negotiator Team
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiation Team consists of seven members. All team members have regular duty assignments and are assigned to various divisions throughout the agency. Team members are on-call at all times for situations that may arise that require the special training and expertise that these deputies are able to provide. These members are drawn from the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office and are chosen for demeanor, communication skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Team members undergo specialized training based on problem-resolution and psychological tactics aimed at convincing the subjects involved to resolve the situation peacefully.
Investigations
Criminal Investigations Unit
The goal of the Criminal Investigations Division is to successfully investigate crimes and assist in the prosecution of criminals by working closely with the State Attorney’s Office. Detectives partner with other local, state and federal agencies in a coordinated effort and use every resource available to solve cases. The ultimate goal of CID is to make Nassau County a safe and secure place to live and work.
Narcotics
The Narcotics and Vice Unit are assigned to the Investigations Division of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and is supervised by a full time Detective Sergeant. The unit aggressively investigates drug complaints and works more complex investigations in partnership with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The unit also investigates vice activities involving prostitution, illegal gambling, alcohol violations and other crimes involving moral turpitude.
Analytical Support
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Analytical Support Unit is assigned to the Investigation Division and is supervised by the Investigations Captain. The unit consists of a full time Crime Analyst and a part-time volunteer Intelligence Officer. The members assigned to analytical support gather and analyze data with the goal of providing valuable information and data to investigators and patrol deputies. They develop reports and maps identifying trends and patterns of criminal activity which allows for deployment of resources in the most effective manner.
Crime Scene Unit
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit (CSU) is assigned to the Investigations Division and is supervised by a sergeant. The members of the unit are responsible for the collection and processing of physical evidence, mapping and diagramming of crime scenes and testifying on their observations in criminal proceedings.
Honor Guard
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard is staffed by members representing several of the divisions of the Sheriff’s Office and is supervised by the Captain of Detention. The Honor Guard is dedicated to meeting the needs of the agency in regards to presentations, ceremonies and public functions in the community.
