The Neighborhood Resources Unit of the department is responsible for traffic control, investigative follow-up support, and high visibility patrol. The General Investigations Unit, on the other hand, is responsible for investigating burglaries, thefts, assaults, and thefts.

The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitations Department has three detention facilities which are used by the Miami Lakes Police Department. The Metro West Detention Center is located on NE 41st Street while the Pre-Trial Detention Center can be found in NW 13th Street. The Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center is located in NW 41st Street. The visitation hours are different for each facility. Also, the hours will depend on the first letter of an inmate’s last name.
