The Jefferson Davis Parish Jail was built in 1964 and has beds for sixty-two (62) inmates. The jail’s Warden is Corrections Commander Dustin Locke.

Visitation:

Visitation is held every Saturday: female inmates are allowed visitors from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.; male inmates are allowed visitors from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. An inmate can request up to two visitors per visitation. Each visit lasts thirty minutes; if there are two visitors for one inmate, then that inmate’s time is equally split between them (fifteen minutes per visitor). In order to be allowed a visit, the inmate must complete a Visitation Request form with your Name and Driver’s License or I.D. Number and are allowed to request preferred visiting times. Once the inmate requests a visitation, the request goes through an approval process. If the visitation request is approved, then the inmate is given a visitation time. It is the inmates’ responsibility to inform the visitor(s) of the time of the visitation. The following rules govern visitation and must be adhered to at all times:

  • Visitors must be 18 years of age or older
  • Visitors can not be a Convicted Felon
  • Visitors can not be on Probation
  • Visitors can not have been incarcerated in Jefferson Davis Parish Jail

Civil Division

The Civil Division is responsible for serving criminal and civil papers within Jefferson Davis Parish, including but not limited to citations, garnishments, notices, subpoenas, summons and other processes. The Civil Division also executes judgments, mandates, orders and writs directed to the Sheriff by the District Courts, Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
Upon the execution by the Civil Division of a writ of attachment, sequestration, fieri facias or seizure and sale under executory process, the Sheriff is directed by the court to seize the subject’s property. These seizures may lead to the public auction or Sheriff’s Sale of the seized property, which is overseen by the Civil Division.

Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D.) of the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office is tasked with effectively and professionally investigating criminal complaints and preparing cases for the District Attorney to prosecute.
Detectives also follow up on all reports written by Patrol Deputies, as well as initiating investigations and executing search warrants when necessary.
Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s detectives have all attended training in various fields and regularly expand their knowledge in state and federal law, investigative techniques and forensic sciences as these topics continually change.
Under the command of Investigations Commander Ramby Cormier, detectives with C.I.D. are tasked with several different duties and also investigate numerous types of crimes, including, but not limited to, narcotics investigations, cyber crime investigations, crimes against individuals, property crimes, abuse, sexual assaults, missing persons, homicides and robberies.

K-9 Unit

The Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s Office currently utilizes two certified K-9 Deputies who aid in the fight against illegal drugs: K-9 Deputies Jonathan Hebert and Michael Gary.
Deputy Hebert works with a multi-purpose dog, Bean that performs a multitude of duties, some of which include tracking, locating illegal narcotics and area and building searches.
Tracking involves searching for subjects who have fled a scene, as well as helping to locate lost citizens. Bean is also able to seek out and detect illegal narcotics in a variety of settings, including residential and in vehicles.

Marine Division

They have expanded their patrolling ability by including additional trucks to their fleet, allowing them to respond to emergency situations during flooding emergencies.
After expanding the patrolling ability, they then became aware of a greater need for the Sheriff’s Office to enact a Marine Patrol Division, allowing the agency the ability to assist in searches for missing boaters, fisherman and hunters, as well as providing additional methods of assistance for the residence of the parish through the many parish-wide waterways and during flooding emergencies.

Narcotics

The Narcotics Division falls within the umbrella of the Criminal Investigations Division, and detectives work varying schedules based on the required time of any given case or cases.
To report a tip regarding any illegal narcotics activity, please contact detectives immediately. Detectives can and will react on credible tips within a reasonable time period, however please keep in mind that action cannot be taken on information based solely on hearsay.

Patrol

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division includes Patrol Deputies that work the parish in twelve (12) hour shifts. There are Patrol Supervisors that co-ordinate shifts, vehicles, personnel, and make sure all areas of the parish are sufficiently covered.
The Patrol Division is under the command of Commander Douglas Britnell, who leads the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division with 22 years of law enforcement experience.

Sheriff Ivy J. Woods is the Ex-Officio Tax Collector in Jefferson Davis Parish and is responsible for collecting parish Ad Valorem taxes. The Sheriff’s Office collects taxes for the parish and some municipalities, as well as school and improvement district taxes. The collected tax revenues are then distributed to each of the respective taxing districts. The parish is responsible for collecting all property taxes from the middle of November until the day of the tax sale, which is generally held sometime in or around June of each year.
