Lake Charles, Louisiana is in Calcasieu Parish. The parish seat of Calcasieu Parish is Lake Charles. At the 2016 estimated census, Lake Charles had a population of 76,848. Lake Charles, LA is the fifth-largest incorporated city in Louisiana and a major industrial, cultural and education center in the southwest region of the state.

Lake Charles is a significant center for petrochemical refining, gaming, tourism, and education. It is home to McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Community College. Our motto at the CPSO is Duty, Respect and Trust. Our duty is to provide the highest professional level of law enforcement response to the citizens of Calcasieu Parish. It is through our conduct that we will earn the respect and trust of both our community and of one another. It is our belief that all citizens be treated fairly, equitably and impartially.

The Sheriff’s Office includes administration, enforcement, reserve divisions, corrections, investigations, enforcement centers, crisis intervention and civil division. The department has 10 law enforcement centers. There are 900 employees in the Sheriff’s department. There are K9 unites on every shift to assist with narcotics searches, searching for suspects and apprehension of suspects.

The corrections center has two facilities, the Calcasieu Correctional Center and Calcasieu Sheriff’ Prison (the women’s annex is located here). The division at the prison are: health services, offender education, prison ministry, work release, safety department, prison transportation, and women’ correctional services.
The correctional center is a maximum/medium custody jail.
