Lockport was founded in 1835 and its history goes back to Jacques LaMotte who owned a large tract of land along Bayou Lafourche. LaMotte sol a part of the land to Messrs. Mercier and Mantel in 1814. Later William Field purchased more land and donated parts of it to the Lafourche Canal Company to build a canal going to New Orleans.
Today Lockport is a progressive community that is dependent upon diversity. It is surrounded by industries like shipbuilding, sugarcane farming, oil and gas exploration, cattle, fishing and vegetable farms. Although Lockport is diverse, it still retains its small-town quality. Visitors are welcome to Lockport and along Bayou Lafourche, the longest street in the world.

Visitation: inmate visitation occurs on Saturdays. Visitors need to check in 15 minutes prior to visiting the inmate. An inmate can have on-15-minute visit. Up to 4 visitors can meet with the inmate.
