Narcotics Division

AC Joey Womack is a graduate of Magee High School (1987) and started his career with the Magee Police Department in 1989 as a part time dispatcher. Womack attended Hinds Community College and also worked with Hinds Community College Police Department as a part-time dispatcher. Womack also attended Copiah Lincoln Community college. Womack attended University of Southern Mississippi and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. While attending USM, Womack also worked there as a ticket writer and part-time dispatcher. Womack completed his internship with the Magee Police Department. Womack worked with the Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) out of the Brookhaven Office where he was responsible for several counties in the southwest part of Mississippi; investigating Alcohol laws and conducting undercover operations. In 1993, Womack joined the Gulfport Police Department where he worked his way through the ranks of Patrol Division, K9 Unit, Special Operations Unit (Narcotics), US Customs Blue Lighting Task Force, MS Bureau Of Narcotics Contract Agent, US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA Task Force Agent HIDTA), and Gulfport CID (Homicide Unit, Burglary Unit, Financial Crime unit, and sex crime unit). Womack then joined the MS Department of Corrections as Chief Investigator over the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. Womack was responsible for being a supervisor over all Investigations inside the prison, day to day operations, security, and employee backgrounds. Womack returned to the Magee Police Department in 2006 from Patrol, to Sergeant of Patrol, Lieutenant over Narcotics and K9 Unit. Womack currently is over all investigations, the day to day operations while the Chief is away, and day to day operations over the Jail.

Each Inmate is allowed 10 minutes of visitation. If multiple visitors wish to visit with an inmate they must all visit within this 10 minute period.

The Sheriff is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the County. It shall be the duty of every sheriff to keep the peace within his county, by causing all offenders in his view to enter into bonds, with sureties, for keeping the peace and for appearing at the next circuit court, and by committing such offenders in case of refusal. He shall certify and return said bonds to the court. It shall be his duty to quell riots, routs, affrays and unlawful assemblages, and to prevent lynchings and mob violence, and wherever necessary he shall call to his aid the power of the county. He shall pursue, apprehend, and commit to jail all persons charged with treason, felony, or other crimes. He may take bonds, with good and sufficient sureties, of any person whom he may arrest with or without a warrant for any felony that is bailable as a matter of law.
