The city of Midvale contracts with the Unified Police Department for law enforcement services. The UPD has a precinct within the city limits. The Midvale Precinct is comprised of 1 Chief, 1 Lieutenant, 7 Sergeants, 3 Property Crimes Detectives, 6 Shelter Resource Officers, 3 COP/Directed Enforcement Detectives, 2 Traffic/Motor Officers and 23 patrol Officers. The officers are responsible for traffic enforcement, handling calls for service, performing investigations on reported incidents, and conducting routine patrols within the city limits. The head of the Midvale Precinct is Randy Thomas.

The inmates of the Unified Police Department are detained at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and the Oxbow Jail Facility. Inmates at these facilities are allowed two visits per week, one visit per visiting day. Each visit is 30 minutes in length. An inmate’s visitation schedule is dependent on his housing unit. All visits must be scheduled up to 6 days in advance by calling 385-468-8400.
