The Rockford Department of Public Safety is dedicated to a Community Policing Model that combines with Crime Prevention with Fire and Life safety. They currently have seven Neighborhood Watch groups located throughout Rockford. Neighborhood Watch groups hold an annual meeting each year. D.A.R.E. Curriculum

The goal of the Rockford Department of Public Safety D.A.R.E. Program is to provide the students of Rockford with effective and empowering information on resisting negative peer & personal pressure, drugs, alcohol and bad influences. Students are taught to make wise, healthy decisions and form positive friendship foundations. The D.A.R.E. Program reaches 26 fifth-grade classrooms in nine elementary schools as well as seventh and eighth grade classes at two middle schools.

Car Seat Inspections

The Rockford Department of Public Safety has partnered up with Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids to have Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians available to help make sure your child is riding safely in the car. Generally, the car seat inspections are held on the third Monday, every other month from Noon-3:30 pm at the Rockford Department of Public Safety. The Algoma Township Fire Department hosts inspections on the months not covered by the Rockford Department of Public Safety. Mission Statement

“The Sheriff of Kent County and the Correctional Facility staff are dedicated to the safety and security of the community. The operations of this facility will be governed by the applicable State and Federal laws while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and service to the community.

Responsible inmate behavior will be encouraged by providing fair, impartial and humane treatment for all inmates. The safety and well being of all those incarcerated will be an ongoing objective.

The employees of this facility will be provided with the training, support and supervision necessary to keep a safe and professional environment.”

The Correctional Facility is a system of facilities that house the inmates committed to the custody of the Sheriff. In addition to these, the jail always has a small number of inmates out on Writs that are temporarily lodged in other jails or prisons.

The main jail employs the podular and dormitory housing designs to accommodate approximately 1,100 inmates of all security classifications. The facility is programmed for internal security to consist of a combination of direct and indirect supervision.

They are one of the few facilities in the country to have three state-of the-art integrated computer systems working simultaneously. We employ a Jail Management System which ties in with our live scan Identix fingerprint and Video Mugshot systems.
