Each division performs specific functions to help serve the community. The Patrol Services Division is the largest unit in RMPD. Its primary responsibility is to answer all calls for service made by the citizens and providing direct patrols. The Criminal Investigations Division, on the other hand, are primarily responsible for conducting follow-up investigations on all incident reports.

The Edgecombe County Detention Center is the facility used by the Rocky Mount Police Department. The main facility can be found along Anaconda Road and has a holding capacity of 255 inmates. The Detention Center Annex is located inside the courthouse which is at 301 St. Andrews Street. This jail can house up to 93 inmates. All inmates are allowed visitation. The schedule is based on the first letter of an inmate’s last name.
